How it works

How AI text to speech works

  1. Type or paste your text

Write what should be said, word for word, up to 1,000 characters.

  2. Pick a voice

Choose a system voice from the list. Standard voices come first, and premium voices are marked.

  3. Set the speed and generate

The price follows the length of your text and the voice, and it shows before you start. The result is an audio file you can play and download.

Use cases

What people use an AI voice generator for

  • Voice-overs for videos

Write the narration for a clip and get a voice-over to lay under it, with no microphone to set up.

  • Narration for lessons and explainers

Turn written material into speech that people can listen to instead of read.

  • Speech for talking photos and avatars

The audio you make is a regular file, so it can drive the DER tools that make a photo or an avatar speak.

  • Hearing a draft

Have a script read aloud to check how it sounds before you record or publish it.

Options

Two kinds of voice for your text

Text to speech on DER reads your text in a system voice, or in a voice you cloned yourself.

  • A system voice

    This page

Dozens of ready-made voices. The standard ones are multilingual, so they read text in the language you type it in.

  • Your own cloned voice

Clone a voice from a short recording once, then pick it under My voices and have it read any text.

Why DER

Text in, voice-over out

  • Dozens of voices

Pick a system voice by name. Standard voices are listed first, and premium ones are marked.

  • Speed you set

Slow the speech down or speed it up before you generate.

  • Ready for your videos

Download the audio, or send it on to a tool that makes a photo or an avatar speak.

Better results

Text and voices that sound right

The voice reads exactly what you type, so punctuation and wording shape how it sounds.

  • The text

    Do

    • Sentences written the way you’d say them out loud
    • Commas and full stops where you want pauses
    • Text in the language you want to hear

    Avoid

    • Symbols, emoji and long numbers — they are read out and take longer than they look
    • One very long text: a clip holds up to 100 seconds of speech, so split it into parts
  • The voice and the speed

    Do

    • A standard voice first — the same text costs more in a premium voice
    • A small change of speed rather than a big one

    Avoid

    • Slowing it down more than you need — slower speech lasts longer and costs more

Rules

Use it responsibly

A voice says whatever you type. These rules apply to every clip you make:

  • Only use voices you have permission to use

Your own voice, or one whose speaker gave you written permission.

  • No deception or impersonation

Don’t pass AI-made audio off as a real recording, or use it to mislead, harass or defraud.

  • Label AI audio when you share

Say the audio was made with AI where it matters.

Pricing

What it costs

You pay per clip, in credits. The price follows how long your text takes to say and the voice that reads it: about 120 characters is 2 credits in a standard voice and from 5 in a premium one.

From 2 credits for 10 seconds of speech in a standard voice (≈ $0.02)

  • Pay as you go

No subscription and no monthly minimum: credits are only used when you run something. Top-ups start at $5.

  • Priced by text and voice

The price follows how long your text takes to say. Premium voices cost more than standard ones, and slower speech costs more.

  • Price shown first

The studio shows the exact price before you start.

  • Failed runs cost nothing

If a run fails, the credits it used go back to your balance automatically.

FAQ

AI text to speech FAQ

What is AI text to speech?

It turns written text into spoken audio. On DER you type the text, pick a voice and get an audio file of that voice reading it — an AI voice generator for voice-overs and narration.

How do I turn text into speech?

Type or paste your text, pick a voice, set the speed if you want to, check the price and generate. You can play the result and download it.

Which voices and languages are there?

Dozens of system voices, each listed by name in the studio. The standard voices are multilingual: type your text in the language you want and they read it in that language.

Can it read text in my own voice?

Yes. Clone your voice once with AI Voice Clone, then pick it under My voices in text to speech.

How long can the text be?

Up to 1,000 characters, as long as it takes no more than 100 seconds to say. Numbers, symbols and slower voices take longer than they look, so the studio tells you when a text is too long for one clip.

Is AI text to speech free?

No. Prices start at 2 credits for 10 seconds of speech in a standard voice (≈ $0.02). For example, about 120 characters is 2 credits in a standard voice and from 5 in a premium one; a 1,000-character text, about a minute of speech, is 12 and from 36. The studio shows the exact price before you generate. Credits come from one-time top-ups, starting at $5. There’s no subscription, and failed runs are refunded.

How long are my results kept?

7 days. Keep the ones you want in your Library (up to 200) so they don’t expire.
