Free Background Remover

Remove the background from any image and download a transparent PNG. It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermark, and it runs in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.

Drop an image here

or paste it from your clipboard

PNG, JPEG, or WEBP, up to 30 MB. Your image stays on your device.

Images over 16 megapixels are scaled down before processing, and the PNG you download is the scaled-down size. Smaller images keep their size.

How it works

How to remove a background

  1. Choose an image

Drop, paste or pick a PNG, JPEG, or WEBP file. It opens in your browser and stays on your device.

  2. Let it run

The background is removed on your device. The first time, your browser downloads the AI model; after that it starts right away.

  3. Download the PNG

Compare the result with the original, keep it transparent or pick a background color, then download it. There’s no watermark.

Use cases

What a background remover is for

  • Product photos

Cut a product out of a busy shot so it sits cleanly on white or on your shop’s own background.

  • Profile and ID-style photos

Put a portrait on white or a single color. For an official ID photo, check the requirements of the office that issues it first.

  • Stickers and memes

Turn a person, a pet or an object into a cutout you can drop into chats and edits.

  • Design assets

Get a transparent PNG to layer into slides, thumbnails, posters and mockups.

Better results

Photos that cut out cleanly

The AI looks for the main subject of the picture. These habits help it find the edge.

  • The subject

    Do

    • One clear main subject
    • A subject that stands out from the background in color or brightness
    • The whole subject inside the frame

    Avoid

    • A subject the same color as what’s behind it
    • Several things competing to be the subject
  • The edges

    Do

    • A sharp, in-focus outline
    • Check the result on white and on a color before you download

    Avoid

    • Loose hair and fur: fine strands can be lost or left with a halo
    • Glass, smoke, veils and other see-through things: they can come out patchy

Privacy

Private by design

Your image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers. The only things your browser downloads are the AI model and the code that runs it, and it downloads them once.

  • Processed on your device

The background is removed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer.

  • Never uploaded

Your image isn’t sent to our servers or to anyone else’s, so we never see it.

  • Downloaded once

Your browser downloads the AI model once and keeps it, so later images start right away.

FAQ

Background remover FAQ

Is the background remover really free?

Yes. There’s no charge, no limit on how many images you process and no account to create. The work happens on your own device, so it doesn’t use credits.

Do you keep my image?

No. Your image never leaves your device: your browser opens it, processes it and saves the result. We don’t receive it, so there’s nothing for us to keep.

How large can the image be?

PNG, JPEG, or WEBP files up to 30 MB. An image over 16 megapixels is scaled down to that size before processing, and the PNG you download is the scaled-down size. Smaller images keep their original size.

Why is the first image slower?

The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 90 MB, or about 46 MB on devices that run it on the processor) and a few megabytes of code that runs it. Both are kept in your browser, so later images skip the download. The removal itself is quick when the browser can use your graphics chip and takes noticeably longer when it runs on the processor.

Can I remove the background from several images at once?

Not yet. It handles one image at a time. After each one, choose “Remove another” for the next; the model stays loaded, so it starts right away.

Does it work on a phone?

It’s built to. The page fits phone screens, and the tool uses standard browser features that current mobile browsers support. It needs a lot of memory while it works, though, more than some phones give a browser tab. If the page reloads or shows a memory error, try a smaller image or use a computer.

What if the cutout isn’t clean?

Fine hair, fur, glass and see-through things are the hard cases, and a subject that blends into its background can lose part of its edge. A photo with more contrast usually comes out cleaner. To change the picture itself, describe the edit in words with the AI Image Editor.
